The Compass of Love

Love itself is very complex and how we each experience varies within each of us but also a foundational key to live a life of happiness. But, what is love?

Let’s start by categorizing love as two types, passionate and companionate love. Passionate love is what people typically consider being “in love”. It is that intense longing for someone or some desired experience and the intense feeling associated with that. As love grows our deep passionate desires turn to companionship and the deep intimacy, commitment, and dedication to someone, including ourselves.

Many of you will think of this as love for others, and it is important, but the most important love is the love of self. Those that love themselves become their own champion and caretaker. They come from a place of non-judgement and from a place of knowingness of their own complexities, their web of steel, and dedicate themselves to learning and understanding this web of love.

It comes from a place of realizing that this current reality, once accepted and included as a part of themselves, is now open to change of an even happier self, open to new possibilities and choices.

To love another is made even more complex if the love of self is not fully experienced, and will be filled with times of anger, fear, resentment, jealousy, and so many negative emotions. Living a life of love is committing to oneself and to accept them as they are, exactly as they currently are. And it is not easy until it is, and then love guides you on your path of happiness. It is a place of no blame or shame but merely a sense of this creation of self we magnificently chose.

So, what happens when you say OK to your life to accept and include all of you, all of you that you like and dislike. For me it is the most beautiful sight to see when someone makes this first movement that immediately shows up as a deep relaxation of all the muscles and a radiance of energy that bathes you in love and themselves as well.

It begins to simplify the complexity of you and the rediscovery of who you chose to become and the patterns you created to survive in this world.

The next step on the path to self love is to realize that the world in not nearly as dangerous as you thought it was, which leads to even more relaxation and having more choices in life. Most fears are not real but only made real by our creative capabilities.

This self examination is an extremely iterative process that probably will last for the rest of our lives but eagerly and joyously experienced.

Self rapport forms the basis of meaningful, close, and harmonious relationship with ourselves. It is characterized by a lack of resistance and the knowingness that we had to learn to survive the perceived threats to our lives and the characterizations that others seemed to inflict upon us.

Love is truly all there is and everything else is optional and often made up. You are perfect just the way you are and as loveable as all of us. If only you are willing to experience it and to learn to love all that is you!

Love is your only truth and everything else is optional or not. You decide.
